I'M PART OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS. ____________________ Anja is a mutant OC made for the X Men First Class fandom. Anja was born near what is now St Petersburg, Russia, in the cold of December, 1907, in a small encampment of travelling mutants. She had loving parents and a fairly happy and settled childhood, despite the regular travelling and a substantial fire that occurred when she was twelve. The fire was caused by a group of drunken human youths; one carelessly cast the end of a cigarette onto one of the canvas-roofed carriages, not noticing that it was still burning. This incident left the young Anja with a deep distaste for ordinary human beings, and disfiguring, painful burn-scars all over her legs and lower back; scars which remain till the present day and cause her to walk with a noticeably slumped posture in colder weather, due flare-ups of pain. She spent her youth travelling through Europe, her family never staying in one place too long, which is a behavior that has carried through to her adult life. Russian is her main language, but due to her extensive travelling, she can also speak German and English relatively fluently, and French well enough to get by. In August 1937, she was staying in Paris, when she decided, quite by chance, to check out a new ballroom and bar that had opened. It was to be a coincidence which would largely change her life, as there she met fellow traveller and mutant Sebastian Shaw. He took a liking to her, and inducted her into his high-society Hellfire Club. She remained at his side until 1940, as his Black Queen. That spring, they had journeyed together to Berlin, and he had become intrigued by the ideas of the Nazi Party, in particular, their ideas on genes, eugenics, and conquering Europe. Anja, however, saw them as like any other warmongering human, and wasn't as inclined towards their ideas. A rift broke between Anja and Shaw, eventually causing her to leave him in March that year. Also causing the split was the fact that he had encountered the teenage Emma Frost at a society party in January, and Anja felt that her position was endangered by the younger woman's beauty, as Sebastian was showing signs of growing bored of her, while he lavished attention on Emma. After leaving him, she withdrew into solitude, returning to her travelling. Eventually, however, she did purchase herself a home, settling in the United Kingdom, in the Scottish Highlands. She waited there until the 1960s and the dawn of the Cold War, which she listened to unfold over the radio. She knew Sebastian was behind it, and she thought of his involvement as idiotic, despite how much she agreed with his ideas. After the crisis was over, she attempted to contact him, and when he did not answer her letter, she knew that he was dead. Despite her distaste for everything that he had become, she still loved him and grieves for him, though she will not show her feelings to anyone. Anja's power is the ability to cause minor sensory illusions, that is, she can make people see something that is not there, or alter the way they feel. For instance, to show Sebastian her power on their meeting, she made him see a moth that didn't truly exist, and she calls making it seem like time has slowed down her 'party trick'. She appears to be in her late forties/early fifties, has blonde hair which is turning to grey in places, and an air of faded grandeur. She generally wears sweaters and pants, coupled with a pair of sensible walking boots, all good clothes for travelling. She has developed a mild smoking habit over the years, and perhaps because of this, or because of the cold, misty air of Scotland where she has made her home, she has a seemingly never-ending cough. |
