Machiavelli Rousseau | Original Character | Humanistic Thinker
____________________
Machiavelli Rousseau was born in the year of our lord 1550 (but looks 20) to a French Father and an Italian mother; her father was often considered a scholar, and made it his life’s work chronicling the life of the Renaissance thinker, Machiavelli (hence her name). Machiavelli grew up having the advantages that mostly only courtesans were granted; both of her parents worked hard to see that she was an accomplished young woman.
While not beautiful, her simple charm and independent nature attracted men; she was offered many hands in marriage; however, she declined saying that she was not quite ready to settle down, there were still more things she wanted to learn in the world. Her parents were uncomfortable for her spinster-esque lifestyle but dealt with it until the age of 18. “You’re getting too old.” They said; even though these comments frustrated her, she eventually conceded to marrying Patricio Renauld, a scholar friend of her fathers. He was only 5 years her senior, and considered herself lucky that she wasn’t stuck with a crusty old man as her soon-to-be husband.
Before she got married, she went with her father and his fellow academics to Sicily to do some field study in a town just outside of Catania called Nicolosi; there had been reports of sprites appearing and rumors of witchcraft spreading. Once there, she wandered from the group among the hills, only stumble upon a small cave; She heard whispers within there and decided to follow her inquisitive intuition into it. The whispering got louder once she entered, but no one was to be found in there. Giving up and blaming sleep deprivation for her hearing things, she left.
Upon leaving the cave, the environment had changed, and the air no longer as fresh. Strange looking houses had been raised in her absence, and people were dressed in odd clothes. Somehow, she deduced, she had fallen in through a rip in time and space, and landed in Sicily some few hundred years later.
Machiavelli is generally independent and headstrong, however does cast great sympathy when warranted. She doesn’t believe people being babies all the time, only in times of great sorrow. If you whine, she will be snarky, because she doesn’t give a care about your trivial little problems—I mean, the woman did just lose everything by unknowingly travelling through time and space.
