Edward Scissorhands is a robotic man that lives by himself in a mansion on a hill. He has been there for as long as he has been "alive," and doesn't travel to the stereotypical town beneath it.
Edward used to be just a robot with scissors, and he helped his master along with the other robots. His master came up with a brilliant idea and began a project to turn Edward into a lookalike human. He gave him a face, a body, and something resembling a brain, leading him to the complicated realm of emotions. The last thing remaining was his hands. Before his master could transplant them, he died from heart failure, and Edward was left by himself in the giant mansion, left incomplete with sharp weapons for hands.
Years later, a woman came by trying to sell makeup. She pitied Edward, and took him home with her, letting him stay in her house with her husband, son and daughter. She tried to help him belong, but of course, that failed. Edward fell in love with this woman's daughter when she came home, and she fell in love with him. Her brother got hit by a car, and when Edward tried to comfort him, he cut up the little boy's face. The entire town that had been previously enamored with him turned against him, running him out of the town. The girl he loved lied to the town, telling them she had killed him. She was forced to leave, and Edward was left alone yet again.
Despite these events, Edward remains gentle and curious, and only wishes for someone to understand him, along with companionship. If he could be granted those wishes, he would be happy. Because of his lack of real world experience, he's almost like a child; innocent but easily amused or amazed.
