bennett sat on the sofa in topher's office, flipping through a stack of papers. a half empty juice box sat beside her. she had taken to not asking topher if she could raid the fridge. setting the papers aside, bennett removed her glasses, rubbing the bridge of her nose. she felt a brain overload coming on. topher was in the other room, imprinting a doll. standing up, bennett walked over towards the double doors. carefully, she opened one just a bit, peering in. his back was to her. a smile crossed her face as she stood there watching him. sudden movement caused her to quickly shut the door, moving away from it. she didn't dare get caught staring at him again. that happened way too often.

"Shall I go now?"
"If you like," Topher responded to the doll. She got up from the imprinting chair and left the room, but he still had the feeling like he was being watched. He felt like that most of the time now that Bennett was around. She creeped on him and stole his juice boxes from the fridge, but he didn't even care because she was so cute. He had liked her even before he saw her, when he thought she was a dude, which was embarassing...but whatever. He left the imprinting room and walked back into his office where Bennett was standing.
"What are you reading?" Topher asked, gesturing to the pile of papers. As soon as he said it he wanted to hit himself for beind so awkward.

without breaking her concentration, bennett spoke. "just some super smart genius type stuff." she looked up at him. that adorable confused look was on his face. bennett couldn't help but break into a wide smile, her glasses sliding down the bridge of her nose slightly. standing up, she stretched, feeling his eyes on her. this sent a small blush creeping towards her cheeks. quickly, she walked over to the railing and looked down at the main room, at the serene, carefree dolls. must be nice to be that content. bennett bit her bottom lip, looking from doll to doll. sometimes she didn't stop to think that these were her canvases. fresh, clean canvases for her to create with. clapping her hands against the railing, she turned around, facing topher again. "so, which one of your amazing imprints did you use this time?" her head nodded towards the now empty chair.

Topher nodded, choosing not to say anything else that would make him want to put his foot in his mouth, and followed Bennett over towards the railing. The way she stared at the dolls almost had a tinge of longing. If Bennett wanted to be beautiful, Topher thought, she was already prettier than any doll he'd ever seen. Her voice snapped him out of his thoughts. "Oh, today Kilo is a babysitter. That also knows kung fu. She's going to protect the President's daughters or something. I'm really proud of this one." Topher smiled at her again nervously, twisting his fingers together. It was now or never, he decided. He may as well say it. "Hey, we should hang out sometime. Like, uh, outside of work."

bennett didn't have time to comment on anything relating to the imprint. the question caught her off guard, something that was quite unusual for her. she looked down at her feet, tracing a pattern in the carpet with the toe of her shoe. "hang out? uh, yeah. sure." bennett looked back up at topher, a smile on her face. "that'd be...that'd be really nice actually." the key was to appear calm. slow, steady breathing. biting the inside of her cheek. she knew the minute she was able to get away from him she would freak out. probably let out a giggle or two. but at the moment, she had to stay calm. "just, well you know, let me know whenever you'd like to."

Topher had made her nervous, he could tell. It sounded creepy even to think, but he watched Bennett so much, he could tell the subtle differences in her mood. He had always been good at observing and reading people, something that served him well at building new imprints. He smiled back at her, trying to put her at ease. "That's great!" Topher said. "We could go see that new vampire movie. Like not as a serious thing. To make fun of it. I'll let you know, okay?" As soon as he said that Topher immediately regretted it. Bennett didn't know about his agoraphobia and he didn't know how he could possibly hide it from her. "Well," he said, turning away from the railing. "I have to go talk to Adelle about something. I'll see you later, okay?"
And with that, Topher left, calm on the inside but internally freaking out.
