the house was old. it actually should've been demolished years ago, but it became a hysterical landmark. because of that, it was still in pretty decent shape. it held tours every once in awhile, but he was sure most people only went there because of the stories that were told about ghosts haunting it. rory had been there before and had never seen any ghosts there. he had marked it down as nothing more than fiction. probably only told to keep kids from wandering away from their parents. somewhere it got out of hand, parts were probably added in. over so many years that always happened with stories.
a little girl got hurt when she fell. he didn't like seeing people hurt, so he helped her out as best he could without much first aid equipment. she could probably still finish the tour before needing it properly taken care of. rory even stood there for a moment after they started walking away, making sure she would be okay. as he was about to follow, he heard something. it sounded like a child. he turned around and half ran in the direction he heard the child's shout. it was possible a child could get lost in the house. if the child got separated from her parents without the parent knowing. rory had never heard of it happening, but it was possible.
he stopped, not sure where the child was. and he couldn't hear her anymore. "hello?" he called out. "i heard you shouting. are you alright?" there was no answer to that, but then, distantly, he heard it again and chased after it. as he was looking for that child, he thought of the ghost stories and wondered if there was some truth to them after all.

Kevin never really believed in ghosts stories. Which was surprising, given everything else that he had known to be true. He probably didn't want to believe they were true, when he already knew about the normal everyday-sort of things that scared him when he was little. Still, watching how nervous other people got over nothing was amusing to him, and he snickered quietly whenever some of the more faint-hearted visitors jumped at the slightest noise. What wimps. They didn't know what they really needed to be afraid of. Becoming bored with this not-so-haunted house, Kevin was almost thinking of leaving for doing something more 'fun'. And most likely more destructive.
As he turned to leave, Kevin seen a little girl run past him and down the hall- only to disappear as soon as he blinked. For a moment, Kevin's already pale skin seemed even more so as a chill went up his spine. 'Okay, I'll admit that was weird.' He thought to himself, slowly following the same path he had seen the child run down. The eleven year old still refused to admit that he was scared, even with a good reason. After looking around the corner for a good minute, he was about to dismiss what he had seen as nothing and laugh it off- that was, when he heard someone shout.
It sounded like it could have been the same kid he seen run past him- if he seen anything at all. When he had realized he was frozen in place due to the noise, Kevin frowned. Nothing scared him. Nothing. As he heard another sound, someone's voice, Kevin felt a bit relieved. At least he wasn't the only one who had heard it. Following that voice (as he failed to hear the shout again), Kevin steeled his nerve and (tried to) wipe any sign of unease from his face.

what he heard could be nothing more than his own imagination. sometimes a person's mind liked to play tricks on them. he knew he was in a house that was always considered haunted and being around jumpy people who believed it was, his mind just decided to have some fun with him. rory didn't want to believe there was truth to the stories. ghosts didn't exist. if he hadn't ran into them during his travels with the doctor, they didn't exist. never having ran into them before didn't mean anything, though, but that was what he was going by.
he spun around when he heard footsteps and noticed a kid. it was a young kid, probably no more than ten or eleven years old. maybe he heard the shouting, too, but he would've thought his parents would've followed. kids shouldn't wander alone, especially in a place like this where it was easy to get lost and besides, it supposedly haunted. rory had heard that ghosts could be mean and harm humans. "where are your parents?" he asked, curiously. "but did you hear that shout?"

Kevin looked over the stranger, somewhat glad that he didn't seem to be as jumpy or gullible as some of the other people he'd seen so far. Although he did look a bit confused, and it didn't take a genious to figure out why as he asked Kevin where his caretakers were. For a moment, the boy wore a look of confusion, before biting back a smart-ass remark and merely shrugging. "I dunno." He responded with feigned disinterest, as if the guy had asked him which way the airport was- and not about his own parents. Truthfully, he knew exactly where they were (or were a few years ago), but just didn't care to give his "tough guy" explanation to this man. Or maybe he'd lost his nerve upon seeing that ghost- though he wouldn't be admitting that any time soon.
Focusing his attention on his second question, Kevin seemed to become more animated and interested- looking directly at him and nodding. "Yeah. You heard it too? Good, then it means I'm not hearing things." He said with a small grin, folding his arms over his chest. "I'm Kevin." He briefly introduced himself, looking past the stranger for a moment- as if expecting something to jump out and attack them. Looking back at him, he decided to ask about the 'ghost'. "Did you see the little girl, too? Or was that just me?" Part of him really hoped it wasn't just him. That just made it a lot creepier.
