[/justify]2012.
It didn’t end the world but, in a way, it brought on what is now referred to the end of the world.
The end of Desert Storm came about, and with the return of the troops, a baby boom happened over the next year. Already struggling with high population levels, growing cities, and shrinking wilderness things were only predicted to get worse. Wild animals became more courageous and daring in their pursuits of food and survival, attacking humans more and more as they were forced to share space with the human race. In the eat or be eaten world humans elected to kill all animals that were sighted in city limits—but the animals weren’t always animals; shifters and werewolves were sometimes caught in the crossfire and were helpless to stop the slaughter. Also brought on from the growing populations were the lack of natural resources—what were the nations to do about that? Alternative sources hadn’t been established in numbers that would sustain the world.
Those problems became hard pressed when, in December of 2012, the computers globally began to crash. For seven days all computers, and with them the link to the world wide web, remained down. Then, just as mysteriously as they had gone off, they turned back on. As the months rolled on these crashes became more and more frequent and countries began pointing the finger at one another out of the fear of the unknown; rumors had been circulating for some time that the Mayans had predicted the end of the world in 2012—but that had come and passed—were the predictions now catching up? Skeptical and more willing to blame it on satellite interference from other countries harsh words and outrageous accusations began to fly.
In December of 2013 the first missal was launched. It hit in Pennsylvania and was more than enough to get world wide attention and spawn a war of pride and ego. Resources, money and lives were exhausted for nothing. The world was put to an abrupt halt when, after a year, someone had sent off series of nuclear missals that hit many third world countries. The computers shut down again and stayed shut down for seven long months after that. Everything was stored on computers, done on computers; the world leaders were useless without them and called an end to the war having figured out that no one was to blame for this.
With the computers going down many companies closed having had their whole business established on the computer. When the computers flashed back on there was speculation over whether or not this would continue, and if it did, would they ever turn on again?
But that was hardly the issue anymore. Nuclear missals had been launched on defenseless third world countries that were now void of life and spreading the toxic to the life and area around them. Those larger countries allied with the smaller nations in Europe, Africa and Asia launched missals that struck larger cities in Europe and the United States that spawned a whole new war—one completely unjustified.
It was then that something happened. A group of vampires stepped in and revealed themselves to the nations leaders. As an immortal race they could not sit idly by as the humans destroyed the world that they needed. Humans took the news of vampires as a joke at first; that was to be expected so the vampires fed off a human on live television to make their point clear: they were very real and they were to be listened to.
Outrage, awe, fear, hate, adoration…many humans felt many different things. Some wanted to become a vampire while others wanted them destroyed. Humans forgot all about their petty squabbles and impending issues—like the lack of resources, the growing population, and the fact that technology seemed to be shutting down—and instead wanted to understand the vampires—which meant testing on them.
At this point another supernatural race stepped forward: the demons. Inherently, they had no beef with vampires, but as a race that loved to cause chaos they let their presence on earth become officially known, too, as they began openly and publically killing off humans. They said it was because they were a cruel, hostile, and stupid race that was destroying their only world but the vampires argued it was because the humans were their food source and they just wanted trouble; whatever the reason, they got trouble.
In 2016 a new war was brought about. It started between the demons and vampires over the human race and slowly dragged the humans, werewolves, shifters and the witches into the mix. The other races were forced to pick sides; did they want the human race destroyed for the destruction caused at their hand or did they want to save them, give them a chance to redeem themselves…if it wasn’t already too late. The vampires, though they fight to save the humans as a source of food, have other motives, too, depending on the vampire. The demons simply seek to create havoc and misery.(Customarily the witches fought to save the humans as they are humans themselves, just gifted.)
To this day the war still exists but has calmed down in many ways. The world is more or less destroyed, torn apart and dead by nuclear bombs. The hardest hit areas have no hope for many, many years but those less ravished by war have become a melting pot of human life. The outter ridges of the continents are slowly becoming submerged in water as the world heats up before freezing—a nuclear winter. Government, though it tries to take charge, more or less doesn’t exist. There are traces of power, of electricity, but those are far and few between. Generators are commonly used but, they too, are wearing out. With no established companies, groups or anything really, it’s only a matter of time before everything runs out. Survivors of the war must take things into their own hands and decide their own fates.
The year is 2029.
