Darcy was sitting at a small table by the window, with a large peppermint mocha. She had of course brought her laptop, which was absolutely covered in stickers. She was supposed to be answering emails, but got distracted both by pictures of cats and the fact that Starbucks had the new Christmas cups. Christmas was probably her favorite holiday, but she didn't think she'd be traveling home to celebrate it this year. Darcy's parents were fighting over money again, and every time her mom called her with more bad news, it just made Darcy more and more frustrated. Oh well, coffee would make everything better, at least for right now. Darcy took another sip and sighed quietly to herself. |

The door opened with the chime of a bell, and a young woman with red hair and many freckles entered the coffee shop. ''Um...can I have a...hot chocolate with sprinkles, please?'' She shot a bright smile up at the tender as he prepared her order. She glanced at the android phone in her hand, then glanced around the shop. She shot a smile to Darcy, clearly a little nervous; hopping from one foot to the next as she waited for her chocolate.

Darcy smiled back at the redheaded girl, who looked like she was having some social anxiety issues. She definitely knew how that felt. New places, new situations, even something so simple as ordering at a restaurant, used to make her feel awkward and out of place. She decided to make the girl feel welcome. "Hey," she called, "I'm Darcy. Wanna come sit by me?"

''Oh.'' The girl seemed surprised to be asked. ''Sure.'' She came over with her hot chocolate, sipping it as she sat down, casting a glance at Darcy and her laptop as she did so. ''...wow, do you have tumblr too? S-sorry, it's just, most people I meet don't know what I'm talking about when I mention memes and being forever alone.'' She grinned a little. "And my name's Kallen. Kallen Cree."

"Yes I do!" Darcy said happily, excited to find a fellow...Tumblr-er? Tumblree? Whatever. "Don't worry, we're in the same boat. I have to explain everything to everyone all the time. And I'm forever alone too. If I could just be in a relationship with pizza and cats..." She smiled back at Kallen. "I'm Darcy Lewis. It's very nice to meet you!"

''Do you have any cats? I used to have two, before..well, everything.'' Kallen smiled, but she was putting on a bit of a brave face. ''What I mean is, I had cats before I lost my dad, and everything went a little bit wrong. But, enough of that. Do you have any pets?''

"No, the place I'm living right now doesn't allow pets, which totally blows. Well, technically they allow fish or whatever, but you can't really cuddle a fish, you know? I had cats when I lived at home, though. I was going to go see them soon, but...my parents are going through a lot of stuff right now." Darcy took a sip of her coffee, her brow wrinkling in concern. "Wait, you lost your dad? I...wow. Is everything okay?" She barely knew this girl and already they were telling each other their life stories. It was kind of awesome, actually.

''Uh...well, it's not great, exactly, but, I'm pretty much okay, thanks.'' Kallen smiled softly, reassuringly. ''It was three years ago, and I've got Arahan looking after me. He can cook, I can't. It's all alright. It's just, I really miss my dad sometimes. I hope I can find him one day." She munched one of her marshmallows. "Sometimes, accidents happen, and people disappear, and you just have to get on with it, you know?"

"Ohhh, I see. I'm glad you're okay," Darcy said. "I know what you mean, definitely. My friend Jane...well her boyfriend didn't exactly go missing, because we know where he is, but he can't come back right now. He's in another dimension or whatever, it's a long story." She shrugged and finished the last of her coffee. "I hope you can find him someday too."
