She was sitting at the table nearest the window. People watching had become her latest thing. Rose couldn't help but wonder if she was half dog. But considering the lifestyle she had led for the past few years this didn't really come as any surprise. A plate piled high with fresh, steaming chips sat before her. Rose averted her eyes from the outside world to the plate, letting them roam over her food of choice. This truly was her weakness. But she had figured out why. It gave her a sense of comfort, a sense of being home. Traveling all through time and space can cause you to forget what home can be like. Clearing her mind of such troubling thoughts, she picked up a chip and popped it into her mouth, chewing quietly.

there was something not right about being able to look at rose tyler through a restaurant window. he shouldn't be able to do this. she was with the past half human regeneration of himself. it was quite an interesting story that didn't quite add up anymore. why would he let her go like that if he didn't have to? dimensions? he couldn't put a finger on what that word even meant. perhaps it was something he made up. it would make a bit of sense. seeing the plate of chips in front of her, he forgot all about his little hiding business he was trying to accomplish with her and strolled right into the restaurant and up to her table, taking a chip and twirling away as though she would grab it from him. "ah, chips. no matter what, i seem to always enjoy these." he walked off and sat on a high top chair, spinning on it a few times before it eventually decided to face the table. he also had a good look at rose tyler. ah. he then suddenly realized his mistake and swallowed, still not comprehending that she wouldn't recognize him in the first place.

with her mouth full, rose didn't really have much time to object to this stranger's snatching of her food. her eyes simply widened as she looked up at him, as a child seemingly would. rose swallowed, eyeing the man carefully. no, she'd never seen him before. but she was sure he was someone you wouldn't forget seeing. there was an aura of oddness about it, something that didn't quite fit in. as many strange things and people rose had encountered, this man seemed the strangest of all. yet she didn't know him. she watched as he took a seat at the counter, spinning in it like a child. a child. this man acted very much like one. yet, seemed so old. not wanting to appear rude, rose averted her eyes and looked down at her plate. the space where he had taken the chip stuck out like a sore, forcing her to look back up at him. what was it about this man? he seemed so familiar. so haunting. not bothering to stand up, she leaned away from the table. "have we met before?" it was a harmless question. but rose felt there was something much more going on here than a stranger by chance taking a chip off her plate.

he swung back and fourth on the stool, entranced at his own movement before he hearing a familiar voice. he looked up and gave her too fond of a smile. like he was a proud great great great great great etc great grandfather. or greatgrandolderperson. didn't have to be related. preferably not. he batted the hair out of his face like they were simply the tassles on a fez. which he needed to find, by the way. he let the fond smile disappear when he realized he was making it and instead looked elsewhere just in case the curve of his lips returned for the kill. "just now. well, not just now. a few minutes ago. that's considered 'before' isn't it?" he turned back to her and gave her instead one of his more used dopey smiles.

she sat back upright in her chair, leaning forward on her elbows. the smile he had given her seemed so familiar as well. but it couldn't be. this was a person she'd never met before. his mannerisms were certainly offbeat. a grown child. rose couldn't help but let out a small laugh as she watched him. she quickly covered her mouth with her hand when she realized that might seem rude. it was rude, wasn't it? to laugh at complete strangers? rose removed her hand. "yes. i guess that counts as 'before'. right glad we've gotten that settled." she gave him a wide smile, then stood up, walking over to him. rose confidently extended her hand. "rose tyler. it's a pleasure..." she broke off, waiting for the strange man's name.

the doctor smiled as she did, happy to see her happy. or just amused, but even as it were, it was nice to see. he scooted back a bit when she walked over. he feared she would disappear in front of him if she got too close, but he was just in front of her chips earlier so... his mind was always at war with itself. to either be incredibly intelligent or completely immature. her hand reached out to him and he stared at it for a moment before slowly reaching up and shaking it once and then quickly letting go. he grabbed a menu to to fidget with for a moment, looking as though he were inspecting it thoroughly. thinking up something really clever, he spoke to the menu. "nice to meet you, rose. run for your life." he stopped and dropped the menu before turning to her again with a look of stone on his face. he wasn't supposed to be clever. "because i'm not a good person to know... i guess?" he winced and hoped she would blow it off like normal people did when the saw aliens in the sky on christmas. "i'm john smi-" he stopped, knowing she already knew that name and tapped his own head before blurting out something. "alonso...pond." he said, simply staring at her before giving her a weak smile. "heh..."
