Kallen was born in the capital city of the Imperium of Zaine; Ilze City. Her mother unfortunately died in childbirth, as medical care in the city wasn't very good for pregnant women of the lower classes, however, Kallen's father, Ciros, an inventor, took up the job of raising her by himself; and Kallen had a happy, fulfilled childhood with him. She would help in his inventions, and he would take her with him when he went off exploring.
However, in her sixteenth year, on one of these exploration missions, to find an Ice Elemental in the mountains; Ciros' beloved airship, the Empress, crashed into the mountain-side. Though Kallen, who was with him as always, was unharmed, he was not so fortunate, and she could find no sign of him in the wreckage or near the crash site. She spent many hours looking, but eventually was forced to turn away and try to find some shelter, as the night was growing in and it was getting cold.
She reached an inn in a small mountain community, and a search was launched from there for her father; which was also unsuccessful, but did at least determine that the man had survived the crash and left the site on foot, which was some comfort to the girl. A gruff ranger, all wrapped up in a grey cloak, recognised her and the wreckage, for he had been a friend of Ciros' when the man was younger, and he agreed to look after her; for it was what Ciros would have wanted him to do. His name was Arahan, and in the morning, the two of them left the inn, stepping out into what would turn into a three year journey across the lands, destroying evil and trying to find some sign of Ciros' existence.
Kallen is a brightly bubbly person, always cheery and optimistic, even more so when faced with the gruffness and moodiness of her travelling companion. Despite them being very mismatched, she and Arahan get on very well, and she has long harboured a crush for him; yet he always turns her down, as he believes he is too old and too dangerous for her. She in turn believes that as opposites, they fit together like puzzle pieces, and longs for the day when he will finally wake up to that same realisation, if it ever will occur. Recently, he disappeared, telling her to wait for him. So that is precisely what she does.
Kallen, like her father, is blessed with bright red hair and many, many freckles.
